2012 GREAT RACE SOLD OUT

Organizers report that they have had a massive influx of entries for the 2012 Great Race to be held at Jindabyne in the Snowy Mountains in early March. No less than 75 Indians and 75 Harleys all manufactured before 1954 have entered the event which is celebrating its Twentieth Anniversary. Entries were to be capped at 130 but due to the response they were extended to 150. This years format all gives competitors the opportunity to form four bike teams to contest for special trophies. Eleven teams have been entered. Entries for the Great Race are now closed.

What is The Great Race?

The Great Race is a navigational and reliability trial for Harley-Davidson and Indian motorcycles manufactured before 1958. In recent years it has been held over 2 days and last years event was 625 kilometres in distance. Many entrants ride to the event from either Melbourne or Sydney.

2011 Great Race Wrap Up

greatraceThe Nineteenth Great Race Corryong 2011

For the third consecutive year The Harley versus Indian Great Race was held at Corryong and surrounding areas.

Entrants’ motorcycles are limited to Indian and Harley Davidson’s manufactured before 1958.A record 120 machines faced the starter at 9.00am on Saturday. The route headed to Tallangatta the on to the Dartmouth Dam. The Laurel Hotel at Mitta Mitta provided lunch. Then back to Corryong via Cudgewa. Riders are scored on navigation timing and roadworthiness of their bikes. Older bikes are given a bonus co-efficient.

2011 Great Race Indian vs Harley

The 2011 Great Race will be based for the third consecutive year in the North Eastern Victorian town of Corryong. At the foot of the Snowy Mountains this gives organizers the opportunity to select from the best mountain roads in the country.

The event is for up to 1957 Harley and Indian motorcycles with entries capped at 60 of each brand. The event is oversubscribed every year. Many spectators line the route to see the multimillion dollar cavalcade go past. The entrants have various timed sections as well as other challenges to complete.

There are team results as well as individual awards. Shannons Insurance, Harley City and Arundel Constructions have been the major sponsors since the event started 1993.

Dates are 22nd and 23rd January
