Harley City began in 1981 in a single shop-front on Sydney Rd Brunswick, possibly one of the busiest roads in Melbourne.

It is after all still the main road linking Australia’s two largest cities. Brunswick had quite a history as home to a number of motorcycle dealers over the years. Frank Mussett and the legendary Charlie Letch among them

But it was not on Elizabeth Street, the more expected address and more fashionable spot to hang up your shingle if you were an aspiring motorcycle dealer. But that’s David Reidie’s way of doing things: “I look at what everyone else is doing. And then I do something else” says David with a smile.

David’s love of all things Harley has seen him embrace the many and varied forms of the brand. Harley City has a thriving business selling brand new and selected used motor cycles along with all the things you would normally associate with Harley-Davidson.

Like clothing, spare parts and bolt-on dress-up products which allow owners to individualise their bikes to their own particular tastes. Harley City is unique in the world of Harley Davidson retailing in Australia. In fact there are only a few retailers in the world offering the breadth and depth of Harley City

Not only does Harley City sell new and selected used Harleys but it also specialises in designing and building custom bikes-the hot rods of the motorcycle world.

With a long history in customising Softails and hand-built rigids, Harley City has now produced a number of outstanding V-Rod specials.

Harley City is also recognised for its work in both sourcing and restoring vintage and classic bikes to world-class standards of excellence.

But more than that, Harley City itself also boasts an important museum collection of its own, recognised world-wide for its eclectic mix of racers, bobbers and rare production bikes.

The Harley City Collection is accompanied by a wonderful array of museum standard parts, clothing and period paraphernalia.

The Harley City Collection is open on the 3rd Saturday of every month. As one of the co-founders of The Great Race, a time and reliability trial for Harleys and Indians, David has also been instrumental in developing the growing interest in the Harley heritage right across Australia.

The Great Race, now in its 11th year is on the world calendar for classic events with a growing list of international competitors. Harley City also boasts one of the strongest Harley Owners Groups (HOG’s) in Australia with a highly active, energetic and experienced leadership.

The Brunswick HOG meets on the third Wednesday of the month at Highway 31. Perhaps, one of the real enduring strengths of Harley City is its staff. David’s belief is that providing the best possible environment allows people to grow and to be part of the success of the company.

Something is obviously working because the senior staff have all been at Harley City for many years.
